midterm 2010

James Wicks
Spring 2010/MidTerm Examination
1. After studying media for eight weeks in this class, what have you learned? Please be specific. I have learned how the media uses persuasive techniques to convince us that they make/are the best product. I have learned how to use the tools web 2.0 gives us like twitter, blogger, and RSS readers.
2. What is the most important thing you have learned about yourself as a 1. A critical reader; 2. A writer, and 3. A critical thinker in this class so far? As a reader I  look at the source the article. As a writer I think more about the words I use to convey what I am trying to say. As a thinker I realized how susceptible I am to advertizing, but thanks to this class I can see the techniques advertisers use to get us.
3.What’s one thing YOU  would do differently this first half of the semester if you were to take this class again? I would always have my tool set in front of me.
4. What’s one thing you would like ME to do differently this first half of the semester if you were to take this class again? I think you are a great teacher. Perhaps show us how to use Facebook for a business.
5. Please comment on the usefulness of the course blog, your personal blog, our films, and our book(s) as learning tools. The class blog is great I can always see what we covered in class and look to see what I have for homework. The personal blog is really cool because now I know how to blog. Our films are very interesting and our book is wonderful I love how we are actually reading it. I am having trouble remembering all of the tools but the persuasive techniques are great in day-to-day life.

  1. EXCELLENT midterm blog reflections, James!

I am glad to hear the course is working for you.

Facebook for business - a great suggestion! had a similar thought myself.

    Let's finish strong!
